Sonny Chiba from a Fan Perspective, He's a bad, bad man.
I remember my first
Sonny Chiba
movie. It was called "The Street Fighter". Dude was so bad that when the movie ended, me and my friends were left with our mouths open.
Sonny was ruthless, you saw blood everywhere. He's sort of a no nonsense type of guy. When he says he's gonna take you out, watch out.
Unlike
Bruce Lee
who was graceful when he would beat you up, Chiba was more like the neighborhood bully. I'm not saying he wasn't a good guy at times, it's just that he instilled fear with his mere presence.
I remember a scene in "Sister Street Fighter" where he's trying to help this woman. The woman thought he was going to kill her before she realized he was there to save her.
Although Chiba instilled fear he also stood for what's right. The Street Fighter was bad a guy who didn't like other bad guys. He only respected his Karate Master.
This alone showed another side to his character that I liked,it let me know he wasn't a total villain and there was a purpose behind his actions.
Other than that Chiba was out cold (aka badass). He fought bears, bulls he also ripped off a man's testicles in movie "The Executioner". There was no holding back in Sonny Chiba movies.
Even though he wasn't a
Kung Fu
martial artist, I still enjoyed what he brought to the table. You felt every emotion in his movies especially the shock value that entertained audiences worldwide.
His career was crowned when Quentin Tarantino put him in
"Kill Bill Volume 1"
. Reminding the whole world that this man is an amazing actor whose talents haven't gone anywhere. And if we are lucky we will see more of him in the years to come with or without ass kicking.
I'm always interested in the opinions of other Kung Fu movie fans. So if this actor / martial artist is or isn't on your "Best Kung Fu Legend" list I want to know.
