" The Chinese Connection " aka " Fist of Fury " was Bruce Lee's second film made in China by Golden Harvest in 1972.
The movie begins with Chen Zhen (Bruce Lee)returning to his old school, the Jing Wu school, in Shanghai to attend his Masters funeral.
He then goes out for revenge on the Japanese because he has found out that his Master was poisoned with biscuits made by the cook of the Jing Wu School(who was a Japanese Spy).
Chen Zhen knows that Hiroshi Suzuki, the head of the Hong Kou Dojo, is behind the murder of his Master so he attacks the Japanese School killing many students in order to get close to Hiroshi Suzuki but doesn't get him.
The battle between both schools goes on until the only ones left are Chen Zhen and a handful of students from the Jing Wu School.
Chen Zhen eventually kills Hiroshi Suzuki. Then Chen is left to pay the price for all the people he murdered trying to get his revenge on Hiroshi.
I would say this movie is the best of Bruce Lee's Hong Kong films. He demonstrates his range of acting abilities. You witness his humorous side as well as his romantic side.
This was the first movie where
Bruce Lee
introduced his nunchuck expertise. All the fight scenes are super classic. They have been copied over and over in such films as "Hapkido" starring Angela Mao.
Lee is faced with racial situations throughout this film which shows his attempt to bring an awareness to those issues that one definitely could relate to even today. Although, I can say in my opinion, I think times have changed for the better.
"The Chinese Connection"
is a Kung Fu Classic I can watch again an again. And I will.
I'm always interested in the opinions of other Kung Fu Movie fans. Did you enjoy this movie? Did it bug the heck out of you? I want to know what you thought about it.
