Not only is this film the only Kung Fu flick to be nominated for best picture, but it has a phenomenal fight scene w/ multiple traditional Kung Fu weapons, and one of the most badass characters (Li Mu Bai) who in all his wise teachings & excellence, turns out to be fundamentally flawed, as all characters in the film are, resulting in a powerful, action packed, artsy, tragic, & ultimately zen like experience that repopularized Kung Fu for a new generation.
