" Flash Point " Donnie Yen makes case with Modern Day movie with Mixed Martial Arts and Kung Fu.

" Flash Point ", I bought this movie around early 2008,and if you read my Donnie Yen bio page you know that I wasn't a big fan of his, early in his career. So " Flash Point " was the first movie I actually decided to buy of his and see what all the hype was about.

After watching this movie I was thoroughly impressed. I'm very picky when it comes to modern martial arts movies. I guess it's because I'm just a classic Kung Fu movie type of guy. But I must say this movie has all the elements in a martial arts film that I look for; good story, great martial artist, and great fight scenes.

What makes this movie more impressive is that Donnie Yen incorporates mixed martial arts in the film which makes it more dynamic. Now, I respect mixed martial arts but I'm not a huge fan. ( I do like Anderson Silva, he's like the MMA version of Bruce Lee to me.)

This movie came out in 2007, and was produced by and starred Donnie Yen. Yen plays a character named Ma Jun, a police sergeant who has to work with his friend and partner Wilson, (Louis Koo) as an undercover cop to pursue a Triad gang headed by three brothers.

This movie has a great storyline and I finally see the potential of Donnie Yen as an lead actor. There are moments where the movie is funny, goofy, sad, exciting, touching and just plain ole kick ass.

Donnie did the choreography as well, for this movie and he did a great job too. It is said he is a big mixed martial arts fan and it showed, with his combining of MMA along with Kung Fu makes this movie a modern martial arts classic .

Another thing that stood out for me in this movie is the incorporation of guns. I'm usually turned off by martial arts movies when guns come into play because its never done right. " Flash Point " gives the right balance of gun vs fighting, and knows when to use the gun play which makes this movie more realistic.

" Flash Point " is a great movie to own and add to your collection. It honors the genre while keeping its modern appeal. If you are a mixed martial arts fan you'll have to check this movie out and also look for the new mixed martial arts pages on Kung Fu Movie Madness.
