i dont remeber title , but it had a long metal spear ,and dies at end standing while holding spear!!!

This classic movie its about a stranger that is dresed with the classic straw coned shaped hat and he always carries a looong metal gold spear (or shaft). He is wandering around from town to town avoiding trouble with the town lords. Until he comes into a tiny village were the people have no one to defend them. He is some sort of a master with his weapon and apparently is so heavy no one can lift it but him. At the end of the movie after he kills all the bad guys he dies while standing up holding his spear.
