Kill Bill Volume 2 turns up Hollywood Kung Fu with David Carradine and Gordon Liu!
Now Kill Bill Volume 2 is the real gold of these two movies in my opinion. But I'm partial since it follows more of a
Classic Kung Fu Movie
style. More story and plot to understand the actions of the lead character. More dialogue and history. And best of all, Martial Arts training. It starts off back at the Chapel where we get to see in full detail the events that lead to the Bride's death. We meet Bill in full flesh as well as all the Deadly Vipers together. Even though it has been said repeatedly that this sequence is a tribute to spaghetti westerns I feel that spaghetti western movies got a lot of their influence from Classic KungFu movies. And if you know Kung Fu movies like I do, they can call it western all they like, but the only thing western about it for me is the location. Everything else is influenced directly from KungFu! The meat of Kill Bill Volume 2, the part that all Kung Fu fans should watch this movie for is the Pai Mei sequence in China. Quentin Tarantino outdid himself hiring
Gordon Liu

to play the legendary Kung Fu Master Pai Mei. As Quentin wrote in the script, Pai Mei mastered the 'Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique' but never taught it to Bill. This sequence got me laughing right away. Not just to see the
Legendary Kung Fu Star
Gordon Liu dressed in white with the long white hair and long white beard like he did back in the day. But better yet to see him play the Master who trains the student! My favorite Gordon Liu film is, of course,
36th Chamber of Shaolin
because I loved seeing the behind the scenes of what goes on during training at a Shaolin Temple. Well Quentin did not disappoint here either. Watching Liu torture Uma Thurman with KungFu training with delight was hilarious. He made it look like he was having a lot of fun with this character. It was my favorite part of Kill Bill Volume 2. I only wish it was longer. But alas, The Bride had to continue with her quest to Kill Bill. So back to the states we go. Where The Bride goes after Bill's brother next Budd played by Michael Madsen. I like how Michael plays his character knowing she's coming and knowing he deserves whatever he gets. Unfortunately, The Bride isn't the one who kills him. Instead Elle, played by Darryl Hannah steals that thunder by ironically using the black mamba snake to poison Budd. (this is ironic because The Bride's codename is Black Mamba) The coffin sequence is cool cause it pays off the why we watched her Pai Mei training. But the beauty battle sequence for this movie is the face off between Darryl Hannah and Uma Thurman in the trailer with the Hanzo swords. Ending poetically with Uma using Kung Fu to defeat her opponent... not the sword. And finally, we get to The Bride's destiny the confrontation with Bill. The climax of Kill Bill Volume 2. Here we learn The Bride's real name, and a big secret is revealed that I won't write in case you haven't seen the movie yet. I don't have a problem telling you this next part though since its the actual title of the movies. The piece de resistance and the final nail in the coffin, as it were, is when The Bride demonstrates the FIVE POINT PALM EXPLODING HEART TECHNIQUE on Bill ending the long journey and finally exacting the revenge she was seeking. Ah, yes. Kung Fu finishes off Kill Bill Volume 2. Most satisfying. I thought it was great. I mean, as with all Hollywood Kung Fu movies I think there can always be a lot more KungFu but for what you get. It's pretty darn good. Well done Quentin Tarantino. I would love to see more from you along this line. OTHER PAGES YOU WILL LOVE:
