Kung Fu Hustle

Kung Fu Hustle and the Matrix are the reason I know anything about Kung Fu movies at all!

I love Kung Fu Hustle! This movie was genius. Stephen Chow is terrific but let's be real, Phoenix Kim aka Yuen Qiu steals this movie!!! Her acting is brilliant and her Kung Fu is Stellar! She made this movie for me.

and Mel, if you don't have her in your actor list i'm gonna try and convince you to add her!!!

I also loved how stylized it is. A beautiful balance of classic Kung Fu movies like "The Magnificent Butcher" and Classic Looney Tunes cartoons. That just hit my spot!

The story is strong and simple. The shots are clean and a tribute to the old style. The characters are awesome! This is a Kung Fu movie anyone of any age can enjoy! I believe that in a few years time this too will join the classic Kung Fu movies list, if it hasn't already.

Anyone who is into to comic books, cartoons and superheroes in any way will love this movie. That's what initially drew me in. But the Kung Fu is what makes me go back again and again.

And imagine my surprise when I learned on KFMM (kungfu-movie-madness) that it was Sammo Hung who choreographed this movie!!! I had no idea because he isn't credited, Woo Ping is. It turns out, Sammo did most of the project and Woo Ping came in at the end!

Due to my Matrix obsession I was happy to watch Kung Fu Hustle thinking he was involved. Ironically since 2009 my foray into watching the classic Kung Fu movies really began.

I found, I adored all of Sammo Hung's movies. They felt to me like "Kung Fu Hustle" did. Funny, great stories and strong acting. So it makes perfect sense to learn that it was Sammo who really created the feel for that movie.

And that was the feel that made me fall in love with "The Prodigal Son" and "The Magnificent Butcher" too.

So as a movie that may be a doorway for many new fans to get to the Classics. You should definitely add "KUNG FU HUSTLE". It is helping to keep the Kung Fu spirit going!
